The best low budget investment to make in the kitchen is a small vegetable juicer. We were given a Juicer for our wedding 14 years ago, by a couple of really dear friends. We only just started using it a couple of months ago. Now, I am not saying juicing vegetables is making the best use of fresh vegetables, because you end up losing most of the fibre, but it is surely the easiest way to get your daily serving size of vegetables at one shot. As for the fibre, some of the pulp can be put back into juice to make it a bit pulpier.
I do not know anything about what detoxification is, because most juicing enthusiasts claim that fresh vegetable juice detoxifies the liver. But, I certainly have experienced that the skin become healthier, clears up and glows. I am not sure if that is also the side effect of drinking about 10-12 glasses of water each day.
So yes, I do recommend Juicing. I am sure even the pickiest of children, who hate their vegetables, will drink the juice at least. It does taste that good.
Vegetables and fruits we love juicing are-
- Apples( Gala or Granny Smith)
- Pears( the crunchy kind)
We generally mix and match each day, but always add an apple to the mix to give it some sweetness. I know lots of people like adding greens to their juice, but I have not tried it yet.
Some of the combinations we like are-
2 Celery+ 2 Carrots+ 1 Apple
2 Celery+ 1 small beet+1 apple+ some ginger
1 Celery+1 small persian cucumber+1 apple+1 carrot
So go ahead and try drinking some fresh vegetable juice every day, after a good workout. It revitalizes the body.
